Mankind has always been curious to unravel the secrets of the world. In our glorious history many scientists have contributed inventions and discoveries that have had a real and uplifting impact on humanity. If we ask anyone about the most acclaimed scientists of all time, we may get to hear names like Galileo, Newton, Einstein and a few more.
But there are some scientists who blessed our world with some unbelievable and unimaginable discoveries only to find their names lost amidst obscurity. So here is a list of some of those lesser known scientists who truly changed the world with their marvelous contributions.
1. Joseph Lister (1827 - 1912)

While attempting to solve the problems of infection in wounds, he studied some of the works of Louis Pasteur regarding usage of carbolic acid in sewage treatment. After which, he began treating his patients' wounds with carbolic acid and also forced their surgeons to wash their hands before and after treatment with a carbolic acid solution as well as clean the surgical equipments with the same. He is known as The Father Of Antiseptic Treatment.

Born in Muddenahalli village in Bangalore, Moshkagundam Visvesvaraya has won several prestigious awards for his amazing contribution, including nation's highest honor, Bharat Ratna. He was the creator of Automatic Sluice Gates and Block Irrigation System, which are considered to be the marvels of engineering. Every year, his birthday on 15th September is celebrated as Engineer's Day in India. Without his invention, the glorious modern dams the world boasts of now may not have been possible.
3. James Clerk Maxwell (1831 - 1879)

Known as The Father Of Modern Physics, James Clerk Maxwell is a big name in the field of thermodynamics, photography, nuclear energy, etc. He discovered electromagnetic spectrum, which further lead to the discovery of Television, Radio and Microwaves.
4. Karl Landsteiner (1868 – 1943)

As an Australian physician by training, Karl Landsteiner played an integral part in the process of identifying different blood groups. He also stated about the catastrophic effect of transfusing the wrong type of blood group. He also explained the hereditary nature of blood types and was also partly responsible for the identification of polio virus.
5. Dr. Mansukh Wani ( 1920 – Present )

Dr. Wani was born in Nandurbar, Maharashtra. He contributed to the development of cancer drugs named Taxol and Comptothecine for which he has been the recipient of many awards, including the Bruce F. Cain Memorial Award by the American Association for Cancer Research, the City of Medicine Award given by the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, the National Cancer Institute Award of Recognition and many more.
6. Narinder Singh Kapany (1962 – Present )

He was responsible for the advent of high speed internet. Dr. Kapany is the founding father of Fibre Optics. His breathtaking research led to not just high speed communications, but also to medical imaging thus spanning from OFC networks to endoscopies to laser surgery. Born in Moga, Punjab , he is the first person who demonstrated that light can travel in bent glass fibres.
7. John Bardeen (1908 - 1991)

He was an American physicist and electrical engineer who is part of elite club of people who have won two Nobel prizes. In the year 1965, he developed electrical transistor and the later discovered superconductivity, which lead to the invention of MRI and CAT scans in the field of medicine.

9. Fritz Haber (1868 – 1934)
