"My
younger sister says that I am her role model. I smile back because it
was never a smooth ride. I was a college drop out, not by choice but
because I had no choice. Life was playing its unfair bit those days.
Then there came a day when things changed and I decided to go back to
getting education at the age of 22, as a mature student. My focus was on
achieving my goal to become a Podiatrist. The
term hadn't even been heard in Pakistan by the time I was studying day
and night in UK to become one. Despite being offered highly paid job
opportunities in Britian, I decided to come back. I had to return what
this soil had given me. My country needed my skills more. I wanted to
help people from losing their limbs as a consequence of diabetes. I
wanted to help the amputees live a better and fuller life without having
to feel any less than the others. I wanted them to feel how much more
beauty life had to offer them. I came back and started my career as the
first and only Podiatrist. The ride is still not smooth. The journey is
challenging and tiresome but I know that I cant stop walking. Because if
I do, my patients will too."
